Career Options after B.Sc. in Electronics

Bachelor of Electronics or B.Sc. in Electronics is a 3-year undergraduate program. A student needs to have the PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Math) combination at 10+2 level to be able to pursue this course. Electronics is one of the branches of Science that involves all the aspects of electrical circuits, including the ‘active electrical’ components such as transistors, diodes, integrated circuits and vacuum tubes.

A few decades before, the application of electronics was limited to telegraphy and telephony only. But now its application has been seen in different fields such as entertainment and communication, defense, industrial, medical etc. Also, with rapid scientific advancements, electronic equipment have become a basic necessity in our lives. Thus, the area of work in Electronics has widened and with that, the employment opportunities in this field.

There is no dearth of jobs for the B.Sc. graduates in Electronics. One can find ample vacancies both in the private and in the government sector.

Employment opportunities in the private sector

The private sector offers a lot of positions for B.Sc. degree in Electronics. One can work both in the hardware and software domain, depending upon one’s interest. One can get employed in the private sector in the following positions – Chemical administrator, Technical Executive, Software Testing, Software developer, Electronic design engineer, Technical support associate, etc. Apart from these, there are also vacancies in the marketing and servicing areas for these students. A B.Sc. graduate in Electronics can also work in the banking sector which can provide a tremendous boost to one’s career.

Employment opportunities in the government sector

There are excellent opportunities in the government sector as well for the BSC graduates in Electronics. Several government organizations recruit electronics graduates every year. Some of the organizations include Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). Other than these, one can also get employed in the Civil Services, Banking and the Indian Railways.

Employment opportunities available abroad

The BSc. degree in Electronics can find sufficient opportunities abroad as well. The demand for these graduates is high in the field of networking. However, candidates with networking certifications stand a better chance of employment in the foreign countries. Most of these certifications are available in India as well. These include Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) etc. These certifications will not only enhance your skills but will also increase your job opportunities by a great extent.

Future roadmap

Networking and hardware fields have witnessed the fastest growth in the last few years. Hence the employment opportunities in these areas are also expanding. The Bachelor of Science in Electronics will find a good career growth in this field and with hard work and dedication, they can climb the ladder fast. These graduates can also venture in the field of Software Engineering for attaining their career goals. However, higher education, certifications and experience are the prerequisites to succeed in this field. Eventually, one can start his/her own firm as well. Teaching can also be a good career option where you can teach in the technical institutes.
